I am a newly minted small business owner. I am in active learning mode about all the things it takes to start, manage, and maintain a small business as a, currently, solopreneur. Two experiences — during Women’s History Month no less — made me recognize that I have an opportunity to curate and share works by authors of color, female authors, and authors who identify as non-binary. And, as any good active learning project should — it taught me some things about myself along the way.

What led to this project?

As I noted, two experiences led me to this project.

The first came because I read the comments. (This is always dangerous). Someone referred to a book summary service I’d not heard of before — Story Shot — so I went to check it out on Google Play. Before I download a new app, I read the app summary and a few of the high and low star reviews. The screenshot of the review below from Sophie caught my attention and the StoryShots reply made me roil with anger. I wasn’t sure what to do with the anger until a few days later.
