Earlier this month, I published an article in my newsletter about developing a habit of feeling as though I needed to ask for permission. The habit originated from having to ask my oncologists permission for pretty much anything I wanted to do outside my normal routine — or at least feeling as though I needed to do so. Habits are incredibly powerful. They can help us achieve our goals, or, in the case of this one, they can be non goal directed and cause us to act in ways that are not helpful.

As I begin to draw the August of Automation 2024 series to a close, I want to focus on just a couple of additional ideas along the Automation Continuum. One of those ideas is habits and automating routines.

Habit Change in Popular Literature

As I thought about this topic, I wanted to check myself and see if I had read the “most popular” books on habits. So, I asked ChatGPT to generate a list of the most popular books on habit change and to provide the authors, their preferred pronouns, and a link to the author’s website for the book. I’ll explain why on the preferred pronouns after the list.

Here is that list:

  1. Atomic Habits
    Author: James Clear (he/him)
    Website: jamesclear.com/atomic-habits
  2. The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business
    Author: Charles Duhigg (he/him)
