Don’t wait. Start today.
There was some confusion in the Ship 30 community as folks started onboarding for the March cohort this week. While we officially start publishing on Saturday, everyone is excited and so a few people went ahead and published a first essay. But, instead of being a mistake, it’s a triumph!
I read Daniel Pink’s book When he talks about all the various times to start a project or task that give us extra momentum. On Monday’s, on first day of the month, on the first day of quarters, on the first day of years, on holidays, and more — these all represent key markers that people find it easier or more valuable to start something. But, the best time to start a new, good habit, is right now.
You will always experience anxiety, blocks, and challenges. But start and keep going. Keep moving forward. I loved a new essay from Ashley Janssen which talks about the excitement of the beginning. Capitalize on that as long as you can because you will find yourself in the messy middle soon — or you will find yourself at an upset in your normal routines and rhythms where you have to use choice and willpower to decide what to do. Those are high value commodities and you want to use them as little as possible.
So, if you’re delaying, start. If you’re not ready to start, write about why. No matter what, keep moving forward.
