Online communities is a broad category that encompasses things like Facebook Groups, Discord Servers, LinkedIn Groups, Quora, and more.
Online communities can come into play in many areas in your learning project.
First, members in online communities can help you better define a learning goal. I’m designing my own learning project right now around learning Agile. A couple of tech forums I was already a member of have been really helpful in answering questions about best resources and paths for learning without incurring significant costs. Many members of online communities are incredibly generous with their time and desire to help others.
Second, online communities can be a part of your support network. When you’ve done due diligence from more traditional research methods, going to an online community with a question is a great next step.
