I’m Rebuilding My Obsidian Vault from the Ground Up — Here’s Why
Would you rather watch this than read it? Check out a video version here. (or scroll on down for the written version).
When I started using Obsidian — which was only back in February of 2022 — I had no idea if I would stick with it. It was the “hottest new thing” in the PKM space — and many people I respected (Nicole van der Hoeven, Danny Hatcher, and others) were talking about it. However, I’d tried other shiny objects before — Notion, Roam, RemNote, etc. and all had fallen away not long after I started using them.
But I quickly realized Obsidian was different. Why? It has a lot of options and features those others don’t have — or that aren’t as robust or flexible as others. Things like:
- folders AND graph view
- Loads of community plug ins to build a system that works for you
- Plain text markdown for longevity, ease of storage, and compact file sizes
- Offline access is built in (in fact, I’m doing the final edit of this on my iPad on an airplane)
