Welcome back to the August of Automation series. Over the last two days of the series, we’ve been looking at iteration. Today, we’re going to venture in a different direction and look at automating the use of templates in Obsidian.

This article is not only a follow-on to the August of Automation series, but also to my former Templater series as well as a series on automating file moving in Obsidian I started last summer and failed to come back to. Moving house suddenly and getting diagnosed with cancer will do that to a person’s publishing schedule.

In this article, we’ll be looking at how you can use the Obsidian Community Plug-In QuickAdd to automate actions on obsidian files.

What is QuickAdd?

According to the plugin’s own description, “QuickAdd is a powerful combination of four tools: templates, captures, macros, and multis.” Today’s article will focus solely on the templates aspect of QuickAdd.

I may revisit QuickAdd’s other choices later in this August of Automation series or in a series just about QuickAdd. QuickAdd was created by Christian B.B. Houmann and it has wonderful documentation.
